Joseph Biggs

The shyest guy of the group said that the nerves are a difficult part for him, but just when preparing to wrestle. “Even after a hundred matches, after 3 years since I started, I still get nervous every single time”, he said. When asked to act like his wrestling character and answer some question as an angry man, like a wrestler is expected to be, he could not do it. What happens is that when he gets to the ring, all the anxiety goes away and during that time Joseph seems a completely different person. Before going to the ring, to let the nerves away, he normally stretches off, to warm up, and put some oil on his body. It is like a transformation, from Joseph Biggs the Northumbria student in his early twenties, to Joseph Biggs the wrestler.

Biggs started training in January 2013, when he and a friend were looking for wrestling schools in the area. They were big fans since 2009 and joined a school in Chester Le Street, called “New Generation Wrestling” (NGW). Even though his friend quit after a few sessions, he continued and now he is one of the wrestlers performing in the North East. His biggest influences are John Cena, one of the most famous Wrestlers of our time, and, from the region, he is a big fan of Rampage Brown. “I train with him each week, and he runs the school in Chester Le Street. He’s been doing it now for 20 years and for me, just one of the best of all Europe”.

"I keep a list on my tablet of all of

them (shows) I’ve ever done".

Joseph goes to the gym every day and trains once a week at NGW, with the help of a wrestling coach. However, he normally plans his own moves. “I just do my own thing there usually. You kind of learn or you go along”, he said.

Seeing all the wrestlers that night, it was evident that Biggs is the “baby” of the group and his career still has a lot to grow in the next few months. Still, Joseph already counts with 106 shows and likes to remember every single performance. “I keep a list on my tablet of all of them I’ve ever done”, he said.
